After a week of Gymnastics competition, the Olympic Test Event in the Rio Olympic Arena has come to the end. The last Olympic berths decided in Rhythmic Group Gymnastics and a final gold handed out in individual competition.

Groups from Germany, Uzbekistan, Greece and Brazil validated their tickets for the Olympics, while in taking the individual All-around title, Melitina Staniouta demonstrated that she belongs among the favorites at this summer's Games.

Groups: Germany takes gold

Ten Groups qualified directly for the Games from the World Championships in Stuttgart, in Germany, last September. Germany and Uzbekistan tied for 10th, but the last direct qualification spot went to the United States, due to the need for representation by Groups from at least three continents.

The two nations were determined not to let the doors close definitively on their Olympic dreams. For the Germans -- Anastasija Khmelnytska, Daniela Potapova, Julia Stavickaja, Sina Tkaltschewitsch, Rana Tokmak and Natalie Hermann -- the difference was in their exercise with the 5 Ribbons, which gave them gold in the final with a total of 33.183 points.

Uzbeks Samira Amirova, Valeriya Davidova, Luiza Ganieva, Zarina Kurbonova, and Marta Rostoburova meanwhile assured themselves silver in dominating with the 3 pairs of Clubs and 2 Hoops.

The Brazilians -- Maiara Candido, Morgana Gmach, Jessica Meier, Gabrielle Moraes da Silva andFrancielly Pereira -- were qualified from the outset, taking advantage of the place reserved for host countries at the Games, while Greece’s Ioanna Anagnostopoulou, Eleni Doika, Zoi Kontogianni, Michaela Metallidou and Stavroula Samara locked down the bronze, which came with a bonus prize of the final ticket to the Games.

Individuals: Staniouta solid in All-around victory

After having dominated the qualification round the day before, Belarus's Melitina Staniouta followed up with the All-around on Friday (70.729 points), though not without a shaky beginning with the Hoop. Nevertheless, the bronze medalist from the last World Championships, who came to Rio to get a feel for the Olympic arena, got a taste of what it feels like to win gold in the green hall of the Games.

It was not surprising either that Kazakhstan’s Sabina Ashirbayeva, who finished just behind Staniouta Friday, put her hands on silver after an excellent start with the Hoop. The battle for the bronze was much tighter, with Austria’s Nicol Ruprecht earning bronze by a mere two tenths of a point.
